A study of 6,400 people, aged 18-99 years, showed that those with slower reaction times and poor memory are more likely to die from a heart attack. The link was observed in both older and younger adults and was independent of potential confounding factors such as body mass index smoking, physical activity and blood pressure.
Those with lower than average scores were found to have a 10% greater chance of developing heart disease. It is not clear why cognition and reaction time are linked to mortality. One possible explanation was that a better reaction time may indicate better “system integrity”.
This is an interesting finding. However, it is important to discover whether this finding can be replicated in other studies. Q-Builder is an ideal tool for this purpose.
Q-Builder can be used to carry out reaction time tests. This program can also be used to develop any other type of questionnaire and collect data with it. A Remote Data Entry System (RDE) is supplied, so that data can be collected with your questionnaires on any other computer. Q-Builder can then output data to a file that can be used in statistical analysis packages.
